Passionato buys America’s Musical Heritage Society

Posted by:

Classical music download store Passionato has acquired the Musical Heritage Society, one of America’s best known classical music record clubs.

The Musical Heritage Society, which was founded 40 years ago, sells classical music on physical discs to subscribers, originally by mail order, and more recently online. The acquisition gives Passionato access to the Society’s hundreds of thousands of active members who may be converted to digital downloads.

It also gives access to the Society’s database of more than 100,000 recordings as well as thousands of titles in its own-label reissue programme.

Passionato was founded by James Glicker, a veteran of the American music industry who has worked in all aspects of the business in such diverse posts as first President of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, President of MusicNow (now part of Napster), and head of worldwide marketing at BMG Classics (now part of Sony Classics).
